Children with life threatening illnesses are subjected to numerous emotional
and physical stresses.
These children may lose hope, withdraw from family
and friends or become depressed.

Through physical exercise and participating in a team activity, these
children have the opportunity to connect and interact with others. In doing so,
they form positive peer relationships that help build their self-confidence.

Under the direction of Athletic Director and well-known skills coach,
Mike Zeillmann, Hoop Dreams offers the following programs:

___Group and Individual Classes
___Daily or Weekly Basketball Instruction
___Fitness Training
___Aerobics
___Flexibility Exercises

Hoop Dreams recognizes that family members may also feel the stress of
chronic illness. We therefore plan to offer family programs such as:

___Sibling workshops
___Family gatherings
___Parent-to-parent networking
___Respite opportunities

Currently children in the area attend one-hour basketball sessions once or
twice a week. In the future, Hoop Dreams plans to tailor more comprehensive
programs to meet the specific needs and physical limitations of its participants.
For example, out of area families may come for weeklong or two-week long
programs. Hoop Dreams offers instruction year-round, including school and
holiday vacations.
